专利摘要:
A culture plug 1 has a form-retained, dried body 3 of adhered organic material as well as at least one seed grain 5. The seed grain is present on the body and the body has a density such that this liquid absorbs from below to the top and a retains the amount of water sufficient to allow the seed to germinate and grow into a plant. When cultivating a crop with this culture plug 1, the culture plug is placed in the soil or in a culture system and then moistened by pouring water from above onto the culture plug, whereby the excess water is drained through the culture plug, or the placing the culture plug with the underside in water 21, the culture plug sucking up water, and the culture plug being placed in the soil or in the culture system some time after germination of the seed.

Culture plug provided with a seed grain, and method for manufacturing the culture plug DESCRIPTION:
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a culture plug comprising a shape-retaining, dry body of organic material, provided with a means that ensures that the organic material is held together, as well as at least one grain of seed present on the body and connected to the body .
A form-retaining body is here understood to mean a body which retains its shape under its own weight and when gripping, in contrast to a non-form-retaining body of, for example, material that collapses under its own weight or falls apart when grasping.
State of the art
Such a culture plug is known from DE2544699A. In this known culture plug, the agent that ensures that the organic material is held together is formed by a dense water-soluble or softening layer that is attached to or around the surface of the body.
Summary of the invention
It is an object of the invention to provide a culture plug of the type described in the preamble in which the nutritional value, acid value and, in use, the air-water content can be precisely predetermined. To this end, the culture plug according to the invention is characterized in that the agent which ensures that the organic material is held together is formed by adhesive present between components of the organic material with which the components are glued to each other so that the body itself retains its shape . Organic material with components that are stuck to each other can hold agents such as nutrients and acidity increasing or reducing agents better than non-stuck organic material. In addition, the organic material, whether or not provided with the aforementioned agents, can be better stored in the dry state than in the wet or moist state. This allows the seed to germinate faster during use and the resulting plant to grow faster.
It is noted that from JP2013039124A a culture plug is known in which a seed grain is located in the middle of the body. This known culture plug must be installed in the soil. After regular watering, the seed will germinate and the plant will grow, allowing the plant to extract nutrients from the body.
Preferably the agent consists exclusively of the said adhesive so that an inexpensive culture plug can be obtained. Furthermore, the adhesive is preferably not water-soluble, so that a shape-stable body is retained even during use after wetting. The culture plug according to the invention can be designed in such a way that, when moistened, it absorbs exactly the right amount of water to allow the plant to grow optimally.
The body preferably has a density that is such that it absorbs liquid from below to the top and moistens the seed there and allows it to germinate. The body preferably retains an amount of water sufficient to grow the seed into a plant.
An embodiment of the culture plug according to the invention is characterized in that the seed is glued to the body. During the moistening of the culture plug, the glue preferably dissolves so that after dissolving the glue, the seed becomes moist and germinated and can germinate in the optimum direction during germination.
A further embodiment of the culture plug according to the invention is characterized in that the seed is present on the body and a skin is present over the seed and is connected to the body around the seed. The sheet must be removed before use. The advantage of this embodiment over the embodiment described above is that the seed can germinate from the start in the optimum direction and is not forcedly retained. There is also no danger that the seed can be affected by glue.
Preferably, a recess is present in the upper side of the body in which the seed grain is located. The recess can be larger than the seed grain so that the seed grain can orientate freely during germination. The recess can also be smaller than the seed grain, wherein the seed grain is pressed into the opening and is firmly clamped in the body, so that no sheet is required for retaining the seed grain and can breathe the seed grain on all sides.
In order to enclose the seed in the recess and / or under the skin, a scattering medium is preferably present on or around the seed. The scattering medium is, for example, granular coconut, cork or perlite.
Furthermore, the culture plug preferably contains nutrients present in the body between the organic material.
In order to prevent that no germination takes place in the case of a bad seed, the culture plug comprises at least one further seed.
The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a culture plug, wherein components of organic material are formed into a body and are dried and subsequently at least one seed grain is applied to the top of the body and connected to the body.
In the known culture plug, by applying a layer on the surface of the body or around the body, the organic material formed into a body is given dimensional stability. With regard to the method, the invention is characterized in that it forms a forming the components of the organic material in a dried body is achieved by sticking the components of the organic material to each other by means of an adhesive and drying.
The seed can be glued to the body or a sheet can be applied over the seed and stuck to the top of the body.
Prior to gluing, nutrients are preferably added to the organic material.
Two seed grains are preferably applied to the upper side of the body and connected to the body.
Brief description of the drawings
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to exemplary embodiments of the culture plug according to the invention shown in the drawings. Hereby shows:
Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of the culture plug according to the invention;
Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of the culture plug according to the invention;
Figure 3 steps in the culture process using the culture plug according to the invention; and
Figure 4 shows a third embodiment of the culture plug according to the invention.
Detailed description of the drawings
Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of the culture plug according to the invention. The culture plug 1 has a form-retaining or stabilized, dried body 3 of components of organic material which are stuck together by means of an adhesive. A seed grain 5 is glued to the top of the body. Furthermore, nutrients and acidity enhancing or decreasing substances are present in the body between the organic material.
Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of the culture plug according to the invention. This culture plug 11 also has a form-retained, dried body 13 of components of organic material glued together. A recess 14 is present in the upper side of the body, in which there are two seed grains 15. The recess with the seed grains present therein is covered by a sheet 17 which is detachably glued to the body around the recess.
The body 3 resp. 13 of the culture plugs 1 and 11 described above has a density that is such that the body absorbs liquid from below to the top and retains an amount of water sufficient to allow the seed (s) 5 or 7, respectively. 15 to germinate and grow into a plant.
Figure 3 shows a first embodiment of the culture plug according to the invention. All parts that are the same as those of the second embodiment described above are designated with the same reference numerals. This embodiment of the culture plug 31 differs from the second embodiment in that in the recess 14 there are scattering means, for example coconut grit 33, on the seeds 15. During use, the coconut becomes moist so that the seeds have a moist layer above them, which promotes the germination and growth process. Moreover, the seeds are locked in the recess 14 before use and during transport so that they cannot shake back and forth and suffer less.
The cultivation with the culture plug according to the invention proceeds as follows. First of all, the culture plug 1 is moistened by pouring water from above onto the culture plug, draining the excess water through the culture plug, or by placing the culture plug with the underside in water 21, see figure 4, wherein the culture plug sucks up water . During the germination of the seed and growing of the plant, water should be given regularly or the above method. After a small plant 23 has grown, the culture plug 1 can be placed in the soil 25 or in a culture system, after which it can be grown further in the usual manner.
Although in the foregoing the invention has been elucidated with reference to the drawings, it should be noted that the invention is by no means limited to the embodiments shown in the drawings. The invention also extends to all embodiments deviating from the embodiments shown in the drawings within the scope defined by the claims.
